South & Central America witnessed a 13.1% drop in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in July 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.
July 2022 has seen a decrease of 5.5% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2022.
IT jobs accounted for a 13.05% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2022, registering a decrease of 2% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2022
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 33.89% in July 2022, a 23.58% drop over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in next, claiming a share of 33.47% in July 2022, marking a 20% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer Support Specialists with a share of 15.9% in July 2022, an 11.63% drop from June 2022.
Database and Network Administrators and Architects registered a share of 9.62% in July 2022, a 23.33% decline over the previous month.
Top five oil & gas companies in South & Central America’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 20.92% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s oil & gas industry during July 2022 over previous month.
Ecopetrol posted 202 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a decline of 16.18% over the previous month, followed by Exxon Mobil with 12 jobs and a 65.71% drop. Chevron with 3 IT jobs and Halliburton with 3 jobs, recorded a 200% rise and a 25% drop, respectively, while Equinor recorded a 200% increase with 3 job postings during July 2022.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s oil & gas industry
Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 94.14% share in July 2022, an 18.18% decrease over June 2022. Argentina featured next with a 2.51% share, up 50% over the previous month. Ecuador recorded a 0.84% share, a drop of 50% compared with June 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 79.08%, down by 23.79% from June 2022. Entry Level positions with a 14.64% share, registered a decline of 7.89% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 6.28% share, down 21.05% over June 2022.
