The UK’s oil & gas industry registered a 10.4% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 3.37% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 6.43% share in December 2021, recording a decrease of 0.84% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry in December 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 33.33% in December 2021, registering a 53.85% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 24.07% share, an increase of 333.33% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 20.37%, registering a 37.5% rise from November 2021.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 12.96%, down 46.15% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 3.85% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

LyondellBasell Industries posted 10 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a rise of 11.11% over the previous month, followed by Nufarm with 5 jobs and a flat growth. Baker Hughes with 4 IT jobs and Anglian Water Services with 3 jobs, recorded a 66.67% decline and a 40% decrease, respectively, while Exxon Mobil recorded a flat growth with 3 job postings during December 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.81%, down by 12.5% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 16.67% share, registered a decline of 43.75% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 16.67% share, down 35.71% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 1.85%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
