The UK’s oil & gas industry registered a 0.4% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 0.43% in February 2022 when compared with January 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 6.72% share in February 2022, recording an increase of 0.14% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.33% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry in February 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 45.33% in February 2022, registering a 24.44% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 25.33% share, an increase of 18.75% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 14.67%, registering a 22.22% rise from January 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 6.67%, down 44.44% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 41.38% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry during February 2022 over January 2022.

BP posted 12 IT jobs in February 2022 and registered a rise of 20% over the previous month, followed by LyondellBasell Industries with 10 jobs and a flat growth. John Wood Group with 9 IT jobs and Subsea 7 with 5 jobs, recorded an 80% growth and a 25% growth, respectively, while Morgan Advanced Materials recorded a flat growth with 5 job postings during February 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in February 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.67%, down by 1.96% from January 2022. Entry Level positions with a 14.67% share, registered an increase of 22.22% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 13.33% share, down 56.52% over January 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 5.33%, recording a month-on-month increase of 100%.
