The UK’s oil & gas industry registered a 1.9% rise in IT hiring activity in June 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.94% in June 2022 when compared with May 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.75% share in June 2022, recording an increase of 0.33% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in June 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 95.12% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry in June 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 36.59% in June 2022, registering a 9.76% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 26.02% share, a decrease of 27.27% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 12.2%, registering a 50% rise from May 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 10.57%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in June 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 12.5% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry during June 2022 over May 2022.

Johnson Matthey posted 24 IT jobs in June 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Shell with 20 jobs and a 55.56% drop. LyondellBasell Industries with 16 IT jobs and BP with 15 jobs, recorded a 33.33% growth and an 114.29% growth, respectively, while Anglian Water Services recorded a decline of 25% with 6 job postings during June 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in June 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.67%, down by 9.89% from May 2022. Mid Level positions with a 28.46% share, registered an increase of 16.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 4.88% share, down 53.85% over May 2022.
