The UK’s oil & gas industry registered a 12.9% rise in IT hiring activity in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 9.2% in January 2022 when compared with December 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 6.63% share in January 2022, recording a decrease of 0.33% over the last three-month average share.

 

Top five job classifications in the UK’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 96.25% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry in January 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 48.75% in January 2022, registering an 116.67% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 20% share, an increase of 23.08% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 12.5%, registering a 42.86% rise from December 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 10%, up 60% over the previous month.

 

Top five oil & gas companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 122.73% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry during January 2022 over December 2022.

LyondellBasell Industries posted 12 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered a rise of 20% over the previous month, followed by BP with 11 jobs and a 450% growth. Baker Hughes with 11 IT jobs and Schlumberger with 9 jobs, recorded a 175% growth and a 200% growth, respectively, while Anglian Water Services recorded an increase of 100% with 6 job postings during January 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.75%, up by 34.29% from December 2022. Mid Level positions with a 27.5% share, registered an increase of 144.44% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 11.25% share, flat growth over December 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 2.5%, recording a month-on-month increase of 100%.
