The US’s oil & gas industry registered a 2.5% rise in IT hiring activity in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 3.26% in January 2022 when compared with December 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.46% share in January 2022, recording a flat growth over the last three-month average share.

 

Top five job classifications in the US’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.72% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry in January 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 48.22% in January 2022, registering a 4.28% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 16.24% share, a decrease of 4.48% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 13.96%, registering an 8.91% rise from December 2022.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 13.32%, down 11.02% over the previous month.

 

Top five oil & gas companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 6.87% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry during January 2022 over December 2022.

Koch Industries posted 110 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered a drop of 23.08% over the previous month, followed by Henkel AGKGaA with 43 jobs and a 48.28% growth. Exxon Mobil with 43 IT jobs and Baker Hughes with 38 jobs, recorded a 30.65% decline and a 40.74% growth, respectively, while Air Products and Chemicals recorded an increase of 23.33% with 37 job postings during January 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.88%, flat growth from December 2022. Mid Level positions with a 20.69% share, registered a decline of 11.89% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 11.93% share, down 12.96% over December 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.51%, recording a month-on-month increase of 300%.
