The US’s oil & gas industry registered a 4.9% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.09% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.05% share in September 2022, recording a decrease of 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 96.66% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry in September 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 28.34% in September 2022, registering a 16.3% growth over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 28.25% share, an increase of 23.23% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 19.4%, registering a 3.59% decline from August 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 12.64%, up 9.38% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 57.59% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

Koch Industries posted 170 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 6.92% over the previous month, followed by Sasol with 150 jobs and a 74.42% growth. Nutrien with 65 IT jobs and Air Products and Chemicals with 37 jobs, recorded a 3150% growth and a 5.71% growth, respectively, while Oceaneering International recorded an increase of 337.5% with 35 job postings during September 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 65.43%, up by 21.64% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 19.86% share, registered a decline of 3.93% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 14.35% share, up 19.55% over August 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.27%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
