Block A-18 Conventional Gas Field, Malaysia – Thailand Joint Development Area

Block A-18 is a producing conventional gas field located in shallow water in Malaysia – Thailand Joint Development Area and is operated by Carigali Hess Operating Company Sdn. The field is located in block Block A-18, with water depth of 188 feet.

An expansion project is associated with the Block A-18, namely Block A-18 Development. This project is currently in the feasibility stage, expected to start in 2029.

The field is owned by Petroliam Nasional and Hess.

Production from Block A-18

The Block A-18 conventional gas field recovered 61.71% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 2012. The peak production was approximately 7.44 thousand bpd of crude oil and condensate and 889 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2043. The field currently accounts for approximately 72% of the country’s daily output.

Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 451.22 Mmboe, comprised of 21.8 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate and 2,576.56 bcf of natural gas reserves. Block A-18 conventional gas field reserves accounts 0.15% of total remaining reserves of producing conventional gas fields globally.
