Colorado witnessed an increase of 1.15% in total oil and gas production to 1,489,141.56 boe/d in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s USL48 database.

The oil and gas production grew 0.26% in September 2021 from 1,485,293.7 boe/d in September 2020. On a YTD basis, the total oil and gas production in 2021 decreased by 5.77% from the same period in 2020.

In September 2021, oil production grew 4.06% to 434,226.17 bd as against the previous month, while gas production declined by 0.01% to 6,118.51 mmcf/d.

On a YTD basis, oil production decreased by 15.75% in 2021 when compared with the same period in 2020, while gas production declined by 1.25%. Out of the total oil and gas production in September 2021, oil held a 29.16% share, while gas had a 70.84% share.


In Colorado, Occidental Petroleum emerged as the largest oil and gas producer, recording a total oil and gas production at 219,682.6 boe/d in September 2021, an increase of 0.59% from the previous month. The company held an 18.62% share in oil production and 13.16% share in gas production in September 2021.

On a YTD basis, the company registered a 13.85% decrease in total oil and gas production from the same period in 2020.



Compared with other counties in Colorado, Weld county recorded the highest oil and gas production, holding a 57.08% share in September 2021. The county witnessed a 1.95% increase in production to 850,062.54 boe/d in September 2021 when compared with the previous month.

On a YTD basis, Weld registered a decline of 10.49% in total production from the same period in 2020.
