Ibhubesi Conventional Gas Field, South Africa

Ibhubesi is a conventional gas development located in shallow water in South Africa and is operated by Sunbird Energy (Ibhubesi). Discovered in 1981, Ibhubesi lies in block Block 2A, with water depth of around 806 feet.

The project is currently in feed stage and is expected to start commercial production in 2025. The development cost is expected to be $1,411 m. The Ibhubesi conventional gas development will involve the drilling of approximately 14 wells and includes FPSO, subsea manifold, subsea tree, and tension leg platforms.

The field is owned by Sunbird Energy (Ibhubesi) and CEF (SOC).

Production from Ibhubesi

Production from the Ibhubesi conventional gas development project is expected to begin in 2025 and is forecast to peak in 2040, to approximately 682 bpd of crude oil and condensate and 80 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, the production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2050.

Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 95.5 Mmboe, comprised of 4.81 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate and 544.08 bcf of natural gas reserves.
