Mississippi witnessed an increase of 3.68% in total oil and gas production to 1,39,537.02 boe/d in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s USL48 database.

The oil and gas production grew 9.43% in December 2021 from 1,27,507.52 boe/d in December 2020. On a YTD basis, the total oil and gas production in 2021 increased by 6.45% from the same period in 2020.

In December 2021, oil production declined 1.86% to 36,196.46 bd as against the previous month, while gas production up by 5.78% to 599.38 mmcf/d.

On a YTD basis, oil production decreased by 5.26% in 2021 when compared with the same period in 2020, while gas production rose by 12.01%. Out of the total oil and gas production in December 2021, oil held a 25.94% share, while gas had a 74.06% share.


In Mississippi, Denbury Resources emerged as the largest oil and gas producer, recording a total oil and gas production at 1,07,374.94 boe/d in December 2021, an increase of 6.12% from the previous month. The company held a 43.14% share in oil production and 88.8% share in gas production in December 2021.

On a YTD basis, the company registered a 9.9% increase in total oil and gas production from the same period in 2020.



Compared with other counties in Mississippi, Rankin county recorded the highest oil and gas production, holding a 50.78% share in December 2021. The county witnessed a 10.97% increase in production to 70,858.08 boe/d in December 2021 when compared with the previous month.

On a YTD basis, Rankin registered an increase of 18.93% in total production from the same period in 2020.
