Virginia Conventional Gas Field, South Africa

Virginia is a producing conventional gas field located onshore South Africa and is operated by Tetra4.

Two expansion projects are associated with the Virginia conventional gas field, namely Virginia Phase 1 and Virginia Phase 2. The expansion projects are currently in the commissioning and feed stage, targeting start-up during 2021 – 2023.

The field is owned by Renergen.

Production from Virginia

The Virginia conventional gas field recovered 1.25% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production expected in 2025. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2045. The field currently accounts for approximately 2% of the country’s daily output.

Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 23.49 Mmboe, comprised of 0.26 bcf of natural gas reserves and 140.67 bcf of liquid natural gas reserves. Virginia conventional gas field reserves accounts 0.01% of total remaining reserves of producing conventional gas fields globally.
