Hartshead Resources has submitted a development plan for the Anning and Somerville gas fields, proposing a new gas transportation route through the Saturn Banks pipeline system.

The plan outlined in the development programme is aimed at facilitating a new gas export route that ties into the Saturn Banks pipeline system for transportation to the Bacton Gas Terminal, owned and operated by Perenco.

The proposed programme includes the construction of two unmanned production platforms and six production wells, with a 24in pipeline facilitating gas export from Somerville to the Saturn Banks network.

The development plan is designed to enable high and rapid production rates, leveraging a large-diameter pipeline to shore for efficient transportation and a straightforward tie-in to existing third-party infrastructure.

To optimise capital expenditure, Hartshead Resources engaged in advanced discussions for full funding of the pipeline extension to the fields and is considering the repurposing of existing platforms to further reduce costs.

The plan has been submitted to the P2607 Joint Venture (JV), which has a 90-day period to review and vote on the proposed development programme and budget.

The plan’s approval would mark an important step forward in the utilisation of the Saturn Banks pipeline system, which is integral to the project’s infrastructure.

CalEnergy Resources, a subsidiary of Northern Powergrid and a participant in the P2607 JV, is involved in various oil and gas projects in both Australia and the UK.

Perenco UK, known for its significant energy contributions in the country, operates the Bacton Terminal where the gas from the Anning and Somerville fields will be processed.

In October 2023, Hartshead Resources and its JV partner RockRose completed the survey for the offtake pipeline route for the Anning and Somerville field developments offshore the UK. The survey was conducted over more than a month using the Gardline MV Ocean Observer vessel.

The survey successfully gathered seabed technical and environmental data, with more than 1,000km of seismic lines run.
