Cheniere Energy and Bechtel have completed the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) commissioning cargo from Train 2 at the Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL) export terminal in Texas, US.

The Bechtel and Cheniere partnership has delivered seven liquefaction trains at two sites on the US Gulf Coast since 2015.

Cheniere Engineering and Construction senior vice-president David Craft said: “We are pleased to have achieved another key milestone, LNG First Cargo, on the Corpus Christi Liquefaction Train 2, as part of the commissioning and startup process.

“Together, we will continue to work towards reaching other milestones for the Corpus Christi facility, including the completion of Train 2 later this year and Train 3 in 2021.”

Bechtel has delivered a total of 15 large-scale LNG production trains for customers around the world, with eight of them in Australia.

The facilities delivered by Bechtel account for nearly one-third of the global LNG capacity, supplying 61Mtpa of LNG.

Bechtel LNG general manager Darren Mort said: “The collaboration between Cheniere and Bechtel has been critical in delivering success on these projects.

“This milestone shows once again that our integrated, direct-hire EPC model and our philosophy of ‘design it once and build it many times’ means lower cost, shorter delivery schedules, and greater certainty of outcome for our customers.”

In March, Cheniere Energy reported substantial completion of the first train of its CCL Project.

The first production of LNG from Train 1 was achieved last November.

The initial commissioning cargo from the project left the liquefaction facility in December for export.

The Corpus Christi LNG project will have three trains with an estimated aggregate production capacity of up to 13.5Mtpa of LNG.
