Oil and gas firm British Petroleum (BP) has made a final investment decision (FID) approving the second phase of the Khazzan gas field in Oman.
Named Ghazeer, the second phase has also been approved by BP’s partner Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production.
In September last year, production commenced for Khazzan’s first phase of development, which is operated by BP in partnership with Oman Oil.
The project is currently producing around one billion cubic feet of gas a day (bcf/d) and around 35,000 barrels a day (bpd) of condensate.
BP Oman president Yousuf Al Ojaili said: “Through the transfer of industry-leading skills and technology from BP’s global portfolio, we look forward to further developing this gas field, which is expected to support Oman’s energy needs for many decades to come.”
The company expects to bring the Ghazeer project on stream in 2021. Completion of the second phase will allow the company to produce an additional 0.5bcf/d and more than 15,000bpd condensate production.
