Cheniere Energy has signed long-term sale and purchase agreements (SPAs) with QatarEnergy for the supply of a combined total of four million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through to 2054.

Under the SPAs, Cheniere subsidiaries Sabine Pass Liquefaction (SPL) and Corpus Christi Liquefaction will each supply 2mtpa to QatarEnergy.

The LNG will be supplied on a free-on-board basis, at a price linked to the Henry Hub index plus a fixed fee.

Part of the volume from SPL, specifically 1mtpa, is contingent on a positive final investment decision related to the first phase of the SPL Expansion Project.

The company is developing the expansion through Cheniere Energy Partners.

It is working on an expansion at the existing Sabine Pass site to raise production capacity up to approximately 20mtpa, including potential debottlenecking improvements.

The total capacity of the Sabine Pass project could therefore exceed 50mtpa once the expansion is complete.

The expansion is planned in several phases, with phase one comprising a single additional train, known as Train 7, and a boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit, along with tie-ins at the existing Sabine Pass LNG terminal.

This phase is expected to offer a total production capacity of more than 6mtpa, inclusive of estimated debottlenecking.

Cheniere Energy chairman, president and CEO Jack Fusco said: “These pivotal, multi-decade agreements with QatarEnergy, one of the world’s most important energy companies and a cornerstone of the global LNG industry, represent a major long-term commercial commitment and reinforce Cheniere’s position as the leader in US LNG.

“We take pride that Cheniere’s track record of operational excellence, reliability and long-term customer focus provided the foundation for this landmark commercial relationship with QatarEnergy.

“We look forward to reliably supplying QatarEnergy from both Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi into the second half of this century.”

In May 2026, Cheniere signed a lump sum, turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract with Bechtel Energy for phase one of the expansion.

Bechtel was subsequently authorised to begin early engineering and procurement work under a limited notice to proceed.

Sabine Pass currently has six operational trains with around 30mtpa of total capacity. The facility processes more than 4.7 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day.
