Proman Group’s subsidiary DeNovo Energy has made its first commercial supply of natural gas from the Iguana field in Block 1(a) off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago.

Drilling at the well first began in 1982. However, the field has remained undeveloped for more than 30 years.

Once the field becomes fully operational, the company expects to deliver 80 million cubic feet of gas a day.

Supported by a $250m investment from Proman in 2015, DeNovo became the operator of the field during the following year. It has since been engaged in bringing the field to production.

The development will allow the company to increase natural gas supply to petrochemical plants in Trinidad and Tobago.

“Together, we have achieved a significant first for Trinidad and Tobago.”

Proman owns and operates 14 petrochemical plants on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in Trinidad.

Proman Group chief executive David Cassidy said: “The Iguana field development is a perfect example of global collaboration and the diverse competencies within the Proman Group, as DeNovo was supported by other Proman companies to deliver this project in record time to a world-class standard.

“Together, we have achieved a significant first for Trinidad and Tobago, demonstrating Proman’s commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of the local petrochemical sector, increasing the security of gas supply in the country, and leading a sustainable evolution in the local Energy Industry.”

DeNovo bought UK firm Centrica’s stake in Blocks 1(a) and 1(b) in 2016. The blocks comprise Iguana, Zandolie, and Anole fields.

According to energynow.tt, the company disclosed in its 2016 Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC) application that it was planning to install four unmanned production platforms and a 14in subsea pipeline, as well as undertake the drilling of 15 production wells.
