Eni has successfully completed the appraisal of the Cronos-2 well in Block 6, offshore Cyprus, confirming the extension and ‘exceptional deliverability’ of the Cronos gas discovery.
The production test, crucial for development studies, estimates a well production capacity exceeding 150 million standard cubic feet per day in production configuration.
The Cronos-2 well was drilled approximately 3km from the Cronos-1 exploration well to confirm the lateral extension and assess the reservoir characteristics.
Eni said the well encountered a similar carbonate reservoir sequence, verifying hydraulic communication and a connected thick gas column with excellent permeability intervals.
The comprehensive data acquisition and an extensive production test at Cronos-2 have demonstrated the discovery’s outstanding gas deliverability.
This well is the fourth being drilled by Eni in Block 6 following the Calypso gas discovery in 2018 and the Cronos and Zeus discoveries in 2022.

By GlobalDataIn partnership with TotalEnergies, Eni is working towards a fast-track development option for the Cronos discovery to contribute to the gas supply in Europe and the surrounding region.
TotalEnergies exploration & production Middle East & North Africa senior vice-president Julien Pouget said: “The successful appraisal of the Cronos gas discovery confirms the presence of significant resources and production potential in Block 6.
“Full evaluation of the discovered resources will now be carried out to determine the best development option to contribute to supply gas to Europe and to the region.”
Currently, Eni holds a 50% interest in Block 6 in Cyprus, with TotalEnergies as its partner.
In Cyprus, Eni also operates Blocks 2, 3, 8 and 9 and has stakes in Blocks 7 and 11, which are operated by TotalEnergies.
