Exploration and production firm Eni and Algerian state-owned company Sonatrach have signed multiple agreements to support jointly operated activities in Algeria.
The companies have also entered agreements for collaboration in the research and development (R&D) sector. The firms intend to reduce costs and achieve greater operational efficiency.
As part of the partnership, Eni and Sonatrach will launch an exploration and development programme in Algeria’s Berkine basin.
The exploration programme is expected to support the production of new gas reserves through the optimisation of existing infrastructure.
Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said: “The renewed collaboration between our companies, enshrined in today’s agreements, allows Eni to make a further important step forward in a key country such as Algeria and to consolidate further our strategic partnership with Sonatrach.
“Furthermore, the forthcoming construction of a renewable energy laboratory and of a photovoltaic (PV) plant at the BRN production site is another step in Eni’s decarbonisation process.
