Russian energy firm Gazprom and the Government of Mongolia have signed a memorandum of intent (MoI) to set up a special-purpose company in Mongolia.
The two parties have discussed the prospects of cooperation on the project involving pipeline gas supplies from Russia to China through Mongolia.

According to Gazprom, the special-purpose company will develop a feasibility study for the construction and operation of the main gas pipeline.
The MoI was virtually signed by Gazprom Management Committee chairman Alexey Miller and Mongolia Prime Minister Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.
In December last year, Gazprom and the Mongolian Government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a joint assessment of the feasibility of pipeline gas supplies from Russia to China through the country.
Gazprom said in a press statement: “The throughput of the new export channel from Mongolia to China may reach up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year.”
