Oil and gas company Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) has awarded British oilfield services firm Petrofac with a $135m engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Kochi refinery in Kerala, India.

Under the contract, Petrofac is required to provide engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning services, as well as assist with commissioning for a period of 27 months.

Through the contract, BPCL intends to add a new motor sprit (MS) block of refining units to enhance the facility’s current output and meet India’s Bharat Stage (BS) VI automotive fuel quality.

Petrofac engineering and construction growth business group managing director Sunder Kalyanam said:  “Having previously executed EPC projects in India between 1997 and 2004, we are delighted to have secured this contract to deliver a new complex of units at the BPCL Kochi Refinery.

“BPCL intends to add a new motor sprit (MS) block of refining units to enhance the facility’s current output.”

In India, Petrofac has offices in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi that provide engineering services and extend support to the company’s projects worldwide. Established in 1966, the Kochi refinery was originally established as a joint venture (JV) with US-based Phillips Petroleum.
