JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration’s affiliate JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) (NOMA) has reached an agreement with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) to develop and produce the Beryl gasfield in located offshore Malaysia.

The field development plan (FDP) for undeveloped Beryl gasfield was approved in October.

The field is located in the shallower zone in a location, which contains the underlying Helang gasfield and Layang oil and gas field in Block SK10 in offshore Sarawak. NOMA is the operator of Block SK10.

In a statement, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration said: “As per the medium-term management plan released this year, we will allocate business resources to our focus regions such as South East Asia, where we can exercise our strength, pursuing a strategy of selection and concentration.

“We will allocate business resources to our focus regions such as South East Asia, where we can exercise our strength, pursuing a strategy of selection and concentration.”

“We intend to maintain and strengthen our long-term good relationships in Malaysia and enhance our capacity to increase revenue through our E&P business activities as operator.”

Based on the FDP, NOMA will make use of existing Helang facilities to develop Beryl, with the first gas slated for November 2018.

The company expects to achieve peak production of around 140Mscf/d of natural gas from Beryl.

Using subsea pipelines, production from Beryl, along with natural gas from Helang and Layang, will be supplied to the MLNG Tiga liquefaction plant in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Following liquefaction, the natural gas will be sold as LNG to the company’s customers, including buyers in Japan.
