Nabors Industries, a drilling technology company, and software developer Corva have formed a strategic technology alliance to automate the drilling process.

Under the alliance, Corva’s app store and dev centre will be integrated with Nabors’ SmartROS universal drilling rig controls and automation system.

The integration is anticipated to scale up process and machine automation, improve remote project oversight, and simplify data sharing and collaboration.

Corva founder and CEO Ryan Dawson said: “Through this partnership, Corva and Nabors are creating a unified solution that addresses current industry gaps, touching everyone involved in drilling a well and elevating their experience on the rig or in the back office.

“This is truly a collaboration aimed at providing our customers more value, more effective channels for team communication, and a new world of possibilities for drilling automation by pairing best-in-class rig control systems and data pipelines with Corva’s App Store, advanced machine learning and physics-based models, and industry-leading user experience.”

With RigCLOUD’s edge computing capabilities, Nabors’ SmartROS rig control and automation system is said to be capable of providing digital infrastructure for remote operations.

Leveraging this, Corva provides rig control and data pipelines from the well site to the energy back office and mobile devices.

More than 100 apps and dashboards are available in Corva to automate, track, and improve drilling operations.

Nabors Drilling Solutions senior vice president Subodh Saxena said: “This creates an unparalleled ecosystem of digital and automation solutions that delivers consistent and repeatable results during the well construction process.

“In addition, both exploration and production (E&P) companies and drilling contractors can standardize on a technology stack that is capital light and empowers them to raise the performance outcomes to the next level across multiple rigs.”
