Freeport LNG Development has secured approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to construct a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project in Texas.
The approval will allow Freeport to liquefy and export domestic natural gas from its existing LNG import terminal located near the city of Freeport, Brazoria County, Texas.
Freeport plans to construct three trains, each with a capacity of 4.4 million metric tonnes of LNG a year. It will also construct pretreatment plant facilities that will interlink with various pipelines, as well as facilities for bi-directional flows of gas via the existing Freeport pipeline. Upon completion, the project will be capable of exporting up to 1.8 billion cubic feet a day.
Freeport LNG has also secured an approval from FERC for its phase II modification project that would revamp the previously authorised but unconstructed phase II project. The project will feature reorientation of the phase II dock and modification of transfer facilities and access roads at the terminal.
Freeport plans to construct both the projects at its existing Quintana Island terminal.
Freeport is the third US LNG export project to get approval from FERC. There are currently ten LNG export projects that have applied for approval.
