Leni Gas & Oil has started drilling the GY-667 well, the fourth of its planned development wells at the Goudron field in Trinidad.

The well has a planned depth of 3,600ft and its primary target is the Gros Morne sandstones formation, the top of which is expected to be met at 2,180ft.

The company said that the well will also investigate the reservoir potential of the Lower Cruse region and is presently drilling in the Goudron sandstones.

Leni Gas & Oil has secured approval to install a new 2,000-barrel sales storage tank at Goudron, which in addition to the existing tanks will provide export capacity of around 2,750 barrels a day.

The new tank is planned to be commissioned alongside the completion of all four planned wells at the existing location.

Meanwhile, discussions to bring in a second drill rig, to further speed up the 30-well drill programme is still underway and Leni said several different options have emerged.

Leni Gas & Oil chief executive Neil Ritson said that the 30-well drilling campaign continues to advance and the company is making considerable progress in learning about the geology and drilling characteristics of the field.

"That knowledge is being used to optimise the development and we anticipate both cost and timing efficiencies will continue to be made through the remainder of the programme. The addition of an optimally specified second rig remains an objective for the third quarter," Ritson added.
