Leni Gas & Oil will start spudding its second well at the Goudron field site in Trinidad, after Well GY-664 was logged and cased to total depth.

The first of 30 planned development wells, the GY-664 well hit more than 1,500ft of gross sand in three formations that include the Goudron, Gros Morne and Lower Cruse.

The company aims to penetrate between 270ft to 300ft of Gros Morne oil pay in GY-664 to optimise production from the overall gross sandstone interval. All three formations were found to host oil with 300ft net pay in Gros Morne, 192ft in Goudron and 79ft in the Lower Cruse.

The company said that simultaneous production of the Lower Cruse and Gros Morne is not possible due to the different pressures.

Leni Gas & Oil chief executive Neil Ritson said that completion of the oil pay in the Gros Morne in GY-664 presents the best production potential in the first well.

"The Goudron Sands can be completed at a later date. The next well, GY-665, will be drilled to at least 3,500ft and will investigate the Lower Cruse in a different structural setting," Ritson added.

The company said that well H18E-H6, which is expected to be designated as GY-665, has a total planned depth of 3,500ft and is anticipated to intersect with all three prospective reservoir intervals as well as encounter the Lower Cruse at around 3,000ft.

Leni’s Trinidad operation features four main assets, the Goudron Field IPSC, the Icacos Oilfield, the Moruga North leases and the Cedros Peninsular leases.
