UK-based oilfield services provider Petrofac has secured a contract to construct an oil gathering centre for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).

The $700m project includes engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning of GC29, which will be located around 70km north of Kuwait City.

Petrofac expects to take around three years to complete the construction of GC29, which is one of three gathering facilities being built to support KOC’s plans to increase and maintain oil production in the next five years.

Each facility will have the capacity to produce around 100,000 barrels of oil a day along with associated water and gas.

Petrofac onshore engineering and construction business managing director Subramanian Sarma said that the award of GC29 is the company’s tenth project in the country.

"With ongoing projects for both KOC and Kuwait National Petroleum Company and good visibility of the future pipeline, Kuwait is, and will continue to be, of strategic importance to Petrofac’s ambitions in the Middle East market," Sarma added.
