Amec Foster Wheeler has secured a £125m contract for BP’s refrigerated liquid petroleum gas (RLPG) site in Grangemouth, Scotland.

Under the one-year engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, Amec will build a new refrigeration plant for BP at the RLPG site that will maintain efficient operations across the Forties pipeline system.

RLPG is part of BP’s Kinneil Liquid Petroleum Gas (KLPG) Chilldown project. For the Chilldown project, Amec will provide engineering, installation, project, construction and supply chain management services to bring the site in line with EU regulations.

"The Forties pipeline system will not be able to operate at current operational levels without RLPG refrigeration."

The company’s completions and commissioning specialist qedi will provide commissioning support. The RLPG plant currently operates with R22, a colourless, refrigerant gas, which needs to be replaced under EU legislation.

Amec provided the conceptual design study identifying R410a as a suitable replacement refrigerant that is environmentally friendly.

The Forties pipeline system will not be able to operate at current operational levels without RLPG refrigeration.

Amec Foster Wheeler Northern Europe & CIS group president John Pearson said: "This contract is a great example of how we are using our leading brownfield and onshore engineering experience and expertise to deliver the best solution for our client.

"We have been working with BP at Grangemouth since the 1970s and look forward to providing them with continued safe and efficient operations."
