Oilfield services company Archer has unveiled a new range of SPACE ultrasound imaging and measurement services intended to give customers a better spatial understanding of the downhole environment.

The new services are based on ultrasonic techniques such as phased-array beam-forming.

Aimed at maximising well life, the SPACE Vernier service measures the internal and external dimensions of the entire wellbore in order to generate statistical analysis of localised damage and systemic corrosion.

The company noted that the technology incorporates a no contact design, which removes the risk of damage to the well tubing.

Archer Wireline vice-president Jan Vader said: “Archer has invested heavily in the continued development of its SPACE product line and we’re excited to bring the results to market.

“The new high-speed telemetry and increased temperature rating of the SPACE range, coupled with the reduced tool size, have significantly enhanced the operating envelope of the service making it suitable for an even wider range of applications.”

The company has also launched SPACE Focus, which is a rebrand and technical upgrade of its original SPACE technology.

SPACE Focus is designed to operate in temperatures of up to 135°C and pressures of up to 7,250psi, while SPACE Panorama can operate in 150°C and 15,000psi environments.

The SPACE range is said to comprise a new high-speed telemetry system and digital processing technology are expected to improve downhole 3D image quality.

Using the developments, operators can make informed decisions related to well maintenance and operations.
