US-based oilfield services provider Baker Hughes has released its line of Kymera Xtreme (XT) hybrid drill bits for oil and gas operators.

The new line of drill bits will help oil and gas operators reduce their well construction costs through durable drilling performance.

Kymera XT drill bits combine the strengths of polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) and tricone bit technology and are available in various designs.

They are also capable of addressing specific challenges in numerous applications and formation types, as well as hole sizes.

"The new line of drill bits will help oil and gas operators reduce their well construction costs through durable drilling performance."

The Kymera XT bits come with a design that reduces torque fluctuations and steerability and control in difficult environments.

Baker Hughes drill bits vice-president Scott Schmidt said: “Kymera XTreme hybrid bits combine the control and rock-crushing strength of a tricone bit with the speed and shearing action of a PDC bit and, in almost every case, are more durable than either of the alternatives.

“This combination delivers a bit capable of drilling longer vertical and curve sections at higher speeds and in a variety of challenging formations, an extremely valuable tool to help our customers effectively manage their well construction costs in this challenging business environment.”

The sharper cutting structures of Kymera XT incorporate enhanced shapes and carbide grades for improved aggressiveness and accelerated penetration rates.

With the new Kymera XT hybrid drill bits, Baker Hughes will be able to improve well efficiency and optimise production.
