The $400m Tilbury expansion project will include installation of a new 1-billion-cubic-foot full-containment LNG storage tank.

Bechtel is responsible for the startup and commissioning of the new liquefaction facility with construction expected to be completed in November 2016.

"We are looking forward to working with FortisBC to deliver needed energy to the people of British Columbia."

The project will add about 46,000 cubic metres of LNG storage and increase the facility’s liquefaction capacity to 1,740 cubic metres per day.

It will address the increasing LNG demands of the transportation sector, remote communities, and industry in British Columbia.

"We are looking forward to working with FortisBC to deliver needed energy to the people of British Columbia."

FortisBC expects that LNG from the expanded facility will supply transportation customers by the fourth quarter of 2016.

The expansion will create new jobs and bring economic benefits to the community of Delta.

Fortis Western Canadian operations executive vice president John Walker said: "Our investments and the market potential for LNG as a more cost-effective and environmentally-friendly fuel source provides benefits for British Columbians – including our existing utility customers.

"FortisBC LNG is helping B.C. businesses increase their competitive position, while the increased demand will bring rate benefits for our nearly one million natural gas customers across the province."

FortisBC, which operates the only two LNG facilities in Western Canada, has been running Tilbury LNG since 1971.
