Jazan

Bertin Technologies has secured a contract with Petrofac to supply, install and commission a gas leak tracking system, Second Sight, at the Jazan refinery in Saudi Arabia.

Jazan refinery is wholly-owned and operated by Saudi Aramco and is scheduled to begin commissioning in 2017.

Under the contract, Bertin will provide services throughout all stages of the design process for the Jazan refinery.

The company will advise the optimum location and positioning, the configuration based on application data, and support the installation, commissioning and test of the complete solution.

Second Sight solution from Bertin Technologies has the capability to detect multiple gases at the same time.

"Our Second Sight technology already has a proven track record in the monitoring and visualisation of hazardous gas clouds for safety purposes."

The gas leak tracking system provides a complete scene visualisation in real time and localises the leakage source and direction of the explosive gas cloud in the vicinity if an alarm is activated.

Second Sight provides continuous wide area coverage per device, with spans of 700m in length by 500m in width and can supervise entire sectors of a plant with detailed spatial resolution.

Second Sight has a good detection capability that includes a large number of hydrocarbons such as methane, butan, LPG and toxic industrial compounds such as ammonia and sulfur dioxide.

Bertin Technologies president Philippe Demigné said: "Our Second Sight technology already has a proven track record in the monitoring and visualisation of hazardous gas clouds for safety purposes."

The infrared gas imaging camera Second Sight detects the presence of gas cloud even at a distance automatically and provides a real time visualisation of the gas cloud motion.

The system can be used with its accessories in hazardous areas as well as under high environmental constraints.
