Seabed survey company Bibby HydroMap has commenced operations on the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) project off Morecambe Bay in Lancashire, England.

As part of the project, which is on behalf of Port Meridian Energy, the company will conduct geophysical, geotechnical and environmental surveys of the pipeline route, using a multi-vessel approach.

The deepwater port will accommodate Höegh LNG’s floating storage and regasification vessel to convert LNG into a gaseous state suitable for transportation to shore through a subsea pipeline.

Port Meridian Energy is developing an LNG offshore receiving and offloading facility in Morecambe Bay, off Barrow-in-Furness.

Chartwell and Eagle, vessels owned by Bibby HydroMap, are set to acquire multibeam bathymetry, side scan sonar data, sub-bottom profiler, and magnetometer data to perform the geophysical and environmental scope.

"We remain committed to continuing our joint efforts with Sonangol to move the Cameia development project to sanction by year end."

In addition, benthic grab samples and visual inspection will be acquired as part of the survey.
