Chevron Australia has discovered natural gas pays at the Acme-1 and Acme-2 exploration wells in the Carnarvon Basin, offshore Western Australia.

Acme West-1, which was drilled to a total depth of 4,742m, encountered 115m of net gas, while Acme West-2, drilled to 4,447m, encountered 56m of net gas.

The two wells, which were drilled in 3,035ft of water, are located in the WA-205-P permit area approximately 93 miles from Onslow.

Chevron vice-chairman George Kirkland said that the discovery represents the company’s 11th exploration discovery in Western Australia within the past 24 months.

Chevron’s Australian subsidiary operates the WA-205-P permit and holds a combined 67% stake, with Shell Development (Australia) holding the remaining interest.
