Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has awarded a contract to engineering group Clough for hook-up services on the Inpex-led $34bn Ichthys LNG project central processing facility (CPF) in Australia.
The Ichthys semi-submersible platform will have a topsides weight of 70,000t.
Clough plans to begin the work in the first quarter of this year, which will include the preparation and execution of offshore hook-up activities and assistance to commissioning.
Engineering and technical teams will be mobilised to the SHI fabrication yard in Geoje, South Korea, prior to moving offshore in the Browse Basin, 200km off the northern coastline of Western Australia.
Clough will execute project management from the company’s office located in Perth with the technical support of its Korean joint venture, CloughCoens.
Clough CEO and managing director Kevin Gallagher said: "Since early 2012, Clough has invested heavily in developing our hook-up capability and implementing key productivity tools and processes to reduce cost and deliver greater certainty of project outcome for our clients.

By GlobalData"I am particularly delighted to continue to build on our strong relationship with Inpex on the Ichthys LNG Project, where Clough and our partners have delivered the LNG jetty and module offloading facility contracts and are executing the integrated project management services contract."
Inpex operates the Ichthys LNG project in partnership with Total, CPC and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
The project comprises offshore facilities, an onshore processing plant and an 890km pipeline that connects the facilities for an operational life of at least 40 years.
Ale recently completed the contract awarded by Cuel by loading out the final module for the Ichthys project onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Thailand.
