Damen Shipyards Bergum has delivered The Damen Twin Double Hull Oil Vessels 8000 named King Fisher and Kestrel Fisher to Dutch managers De Opfeart Beheer and James Fisher Everard.

The vessels, which were outfitted at the DSB-yard in Harlingen, are named as a reference to James Fisher Everard Ltd, which has taken up their commercial management. Their hulls were built by Damen Shipyards in Galati, Romania.

The vessels will carry gasoline, diesel oil, lubrication oil and jet fuels along the British Isles, the Continent and in Scandinavian and Baltic waters where James Fisher Everard holds a prominent position.

The vessels will feature an overall length of 104.52m, a 17m beam (moulded) and ten epoxy coated cargo tanks, allowing for five segregations, while service speed is around 12.5 knots.

Kestrel Fisher was delivered at the end of 2013, while the King Fisher was delivered in June 2013. They were built according to the patented ‘Damen Double Hull Oil Tanker 8000’ design that represents the cargo carrying capacity of 8,363cbm.

James Fisher will operate the two new tankers on an open management basis.

Damen Shipyards Bergum sales director Erik Schultz said that the company designs oil tankers up to 15,000t deadweight, which are then constructed at a yard in the Damen Shipyards Group.

"The vessels therefore feature power take-in, whereby the diesel generator sets will immediately power the shaft generator – mounted on the gearbox – should the main engine fail," Schultz said.

A third feature that Schultz emphasises is above-standard outfitting of accommodation.
