Danish utility Dong Energy is to complete the drilling of dry well 7121/9-1, which lies 20km west of the Goliat field in the south-west Barents Sea.

The wildcat well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,418m below the sea surface and a water depth of 310m, and was terminated in Middle Jurassic rocks.

The well, for which data acquisition and sampling were carried out, will be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Drilled by the Aker Barents drilling facility, the rig will now proceed to production licence 532 in the Barents Sea to drill the 7220/7-1 wildcat well.

Statoil Petroleum is the operator of the 7220/7-1 well, and Dong Energy is the operator of production licence 518.
