Italian company Eni has increased production to around 65,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from its recently discovered Nooros field in Egypt’s in Abu Madi West concession, following the start-up of two new wells.
The two wells, including Nidoco North West 3 and the Nidoco North 1X, were drilled in November 2015 and February 2016 respectively.
The increase in production further confirms Eni’s near field exploration strategy, which will focus on activities, and allows the fast development of the findings.
Nooros’ daily production comprises about ten million m³ of gas and 5,000 barrels of condensates.
This serves as an important contribution to reduce Egypt gas imports, as well as for supplying low cost energy for the country’s development.
Furthermore, Eni has plans of drilling additional wells and facility optimisation in order to increase production up to 140,000boe per day by the end of 2016.
The company will also continue its exploration activities within the license area after identifying more potential.
Through its subsidiary IEOC, Eni owns a 75% stake in the concession of Abu Madi West, located in the Nile Delta, while the remaining 25% is owned by BP.
Petrobel, a joint venture between IEOC and the State partner Egyptian General Petroleum (EGPC), is conducting operations in the license.
In 2015, the equity production in Egypt was about 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day.
