Italian company Eni has upgraded the field potential of Baltim South West in the Nile Delta, Egypt, to one trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas after receiving results from the Baltim South West 2X appraisal well.
Prior to drilling the Baltim South West 2X, the company drilled the discovery well Baltim South West 1X.
Located in the conventional waters of Nile Delta, the Baltim South West field lies at depths of 25m, 12km from the coastline and 10km from the Nooros field, which was discovered in July last year and is already in production.
With the Baltim South West 2X well, which encountered a gas column of 102m overall, the gas potential of the Great Nooros Area reaches 3Tcf.
Of the total gas, approximately 2Tcf is in the Nooros field, while the remaining is in the new independent discovery of Baltim South West.
Eni said that the company and its partner BP are already working on development options for the new discovery.
