Two workers have been killed and eight have been injured after a fire on Mexican oil company Pemex’s offshore Abkatun A Permanente processing platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
Pemex has since said that the fire is now under control and it has isolated the platform area in the Bay of Campeche.
Reuters reported a Pemex spokesman as saying that the company was still evaluating any impact on production.
Pemex said that there was no need for evacuation of the Abkatun A Permanente platform.
In April 2015, a serious explosion at the same platform killed seven people and injured 16. This resulted in crude output from four nearby fields falling to nearly 70%.
A source familiar with the matter said that losses associated with the 2015 explosion may total as much as $780m.
