Global energy firm Falcon Oil & Gas along with partners Origin Resources and Sasol Petroleum Australia has started drilling at its initial three wells in the Beetaloo Basin, located in Northern Territory of Australia.
The well is 30% owned by Falcon, 35% owned by Origin Resources and 35% owned by Sasol Petroleum Australia while Origin Resources will operate the well.
The firms have initiated civil works on the first well ‘Kalala S-1’, which is located within exploration permit 98 and has access from the existing Carpentaria Highway.
Spudding at this well, which will be drilled to a total depth of nearly 2,800m, is expected to start by the end of June this year.
Drilling for the well is expected to continue for 35 to 50 days.
Falcon carried out all 2015 drilling programme and took charge of the cost.
The drilling is expected to penetrate the Middle Velkerri formation to assess hydrocarbon saturation and reservoir quality.

By GlobalDataIt is also likely to help the energy companies in evaluating oil versus gas maturity, and help them in finding out the prospective areas and depth window.
The initiative might also offer further information on the aerial distribution of the target Middle Velkerri formation and help the firms in collection of data points for subsequent vertical/horizontal drilling, completion and production testing.
Falcon and the partners will carry out formation evaluation and reservoir characterisation from the initial three wells through petrophysical interpretation, core analysis, geomechanical studies and stimulation design.
Falcon CEO Philip O’Quigley said: "We look forward to exploring the potential of the Beetaloo Basin in Australia with our partners and updating the market with further details in due course".
