Fluor and JGC have secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Chevron Canada for the proposed Kitimat liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Bish Cove, British Columbia.

Chevron and Apache Canada each hold a 50% stake in the proposed Kitimat LNG project.

For the proposed LNG facility, the project scope includes completion of the existing FEED package by finalising value-improving concepts.

In addition, the scope of work includes detailed engineering and procurement services for the initial phases of the project.

Both companies plan to execute project work from their North America and Asia Pacific offices.

Fluor energy and chemicals group president Peter Oosterveer said that Kitimat has the potential to become Canada’s first major LNG production and export terminal.

"Our strategic relationship with JGC was a key to winning this project and is certainly proving to be a differentiator in our markets," Oosterveer added.

"We are excited to enter into the next phase of supporting the Kitimat LNG project for Chevron and their partner Apache."

Fluor, which had revenues of $27.6bn in 2012, serves a global client base in the energy, chemicals, government, industrial, infrastructure, operations and maintenance, manufacturing and life sciences, mining, power and transportation sectors.
