
Switzerland-based engineering and construction entity Foster Wheeler has received a project management consultancy (PMC) contract from SOCAR Turkey subsidiary STAR Rafineri for a refinery to be built within the Petkim Petrokimya facilities at Aliaga in Turkey.
The company said that the new refinery is designed to process different crude oils such as Urals, Azeri Light and Kirkuk, with a processing capacity of 10 million tonnes of crude oil a year.

The facility, which is expected to start operations in 2017, will produce a range of products such as jet fuel, diesel, naphtha, petroleum coke and liquid petroleum gases.
Foster Wheeler executed the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the entire refinery, and also provided the license and basic design package for the delayed coke, which will use its SYDEC delayed coking technology.
Foster Wheeler Global E&C Group CEO Roberto Penno said that the company will play a key role in this strategic investment in Turkey.
"We believe that our proven project management and refining capabilities, our experience in executing mega-projects, and our long-established operation in Turkey were all instrumental in our success in winning this contract," Penno added.

By GlobalDataSOCAR Turkey CEO Kenan Yavuz said that the refinery is expected to reduce Turkey’s dependence on imports of petroleum derivatives.
"Foster Wheeler’s project management and project execution expertise is well known, and we are confident that the Foster Wheeler team will make a valuable contribution to the success of this mega-project," Yavuz added.
