UK-based oil company Genel Energy has completed the drilling of TT-27x side-track well in the Cretaceous Shiranish reservoir at the Taq Taq field.
Taq Taq, in which Genel has a 44% working interest, is located 60km northeast of the Kirkuk oil field and the adjacent city of Kirkuk, in Iraq.
The TT-27x side-track is currently in the latter stages of the post-drill clean-up phase and was the first well in the 2016 Taq Taq work programme.
The well is currently flowing at 3,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and continues to clean-up.
Following the completion of drilling, the VT-03 rig has been moved to drill the TT-07z well, which is a side-track of the TT-07 well.
Once it is successful, this well is expected to increase production from the flank of the field.
The company’s current outlook for this year involves the drilling of three side-tracks from existing development wells including TT-27x and TT-07z.
Production from Taq Taq for the first half of this year averaged at about 69,000bopd and current production is around 62,000bopd.
It is reported that production from Genel’s Tawke field during this period averaged about 104,000bopd with the field producing 120,000bopd at present.
Based on actual production of about 56,000bopd for the period, planned development activity at Taq Taq and the outlook for Tawke, the full year production is expected to be 53,000bopd to 60,000bopd.
