Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) has signed a deal to provide comprehensive services and support for upstream oil and gas company Lundin Norway at its Edvard Grieg field in the Utsira High area of the central North Sea.

Under its new Assurance 360 programme, Honeywell will provide all necessary technology, processes and support for the automation system over the next four years at the field.

Services include hardware refresh, software updates and upgrades, as well as remote support.

The contract’s key performance indicators will allow Lundin’s management to monitor delivery of the service.

"It takes workload for ongoing services, maintenance and upgrades off their plate so they can focus on their core capabilities."

HPS Lifecycle Solutions and Services business vice president and general manager John Rudolph said: "A company like Lundin will really benefit from the Assurance 360 services programme.

"It takes workload for ongoing services, maintenance and upgrades off their plate so they can focus on their core capabilities, while Honeywell focuses on the areas where we are experts such as control systems, safety systems and operator training."

Honeywell’s technology on the Edvard Grieg platform, which has a full process facility, will include the safety and automation system, operator training simulator, engineering simulator, and production control centre.

Production from the platform is expected to start in the fourth quarter.

The field’s reserves are estimated at 186 million barrels of oil equivalents, with gross plateau production expected to be 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Lundin Norway operations head Kari Nilsen said: "This contract forges a close partnership with Honeywell that gives us certainty in terms of both costs and performance of the automation system at Edvard Grieg.

"With Honeywell providing all the technology and people necessary, it allows Lundin to maintain its lean operating structure, even as we grow and look to develop existing and new opportunities more fully."

Honeywell will maintain the process control system at peak performance under the Assurance 360 Optima contract, in addition to taking responsibility for ongoing maintenance, upgrades to the latest technology, and system management.
