Infraestructura Energetica Nova (IEnova), a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, has won the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) tender to build and operate a 205km natural gas pipeline in Mexico.

The 42-inch diameter pipeline, which is expected to cost $300m, will run from Ojinaga to El Encino in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.

The pipeline, which is anticipated to start operations in the first half of 2017, will be capable of transporting about 1.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Earlier in 2014, CFE unveiled several infrastructure projects near Mexico’s northern border with the US that are part of the company’s plans to increase US natural gas imports.

"This was a competitive bid in which five other companies participated."

IEnova will provide natural gas transportation services to the CFE for a 25-year period.

IEnova chairman and CEO Carlos Ruiz Sacristan said: "This is a result of our experience in building energy infrastructure projects and our commitment with the development of Mexico.
