Maritime services provider Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) is all set to support the construction of a $3.2bn deepwater gas pipeline which links the Mnazi Bay gas field to Tanzania’s largest city, Dar es Salaam.

The company will offer the service as part of an offshore logistics services project in Tanzania from China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPPB) and Anglo Eastern Ship Management.

According to the company, the 532km gas pipeline marks a vital national infrastructure project for Tanzania.

The pipeline, which will supply power stations generating 3,900MW of electricity, runs from Mnazi Bay, Mtwara and Songo Songo in Kilwa District to Dar es Salaam.

"The pipeline will connect commercial and domestic users in several major cities."

The responsibilities of ISS include the agency and husbandry of specialised vessels, along with a custom-built pipe laying craft featuring a 1,600t crane and accommodation for 230 construction workers.

Under the contract, ISS’ Crew Logistics Services division is supporting with crew visa and work permit formalities, and airport transfers to the vessels.

ISS Tanzania general manager TS Mahesh said the deepwater pipeline project is slated for completion in December 2014.
