Magellan Midstream Partners has announced plans to construct a new $335m marine terminal along the Houston Ship Channel in Pasadena, Texas, US.
The new plant will be built on nearly 200 acres of recently acquired land and handle refined petroleum products, including various gasoline, diesel fuel, and renewable fuels.
Initially, the company plans to build approximately one million barrels of refined products and ethanol storage and a new marine dock, which can handle Panamax-sized ships or barges possessing up to a 40ft draft.
Magellan is also constructing a 36-inch pipeline between its existing Galena Park, Texas terminal and the Pasadena terminal.
In addition, the company’s existing 18-inch Texas City-to-Pasadena pipeline is planned to be connected to the new facility.
Furthermore, opportunities are being developed for additional connections to third-party refineries, pipelines and terminals within the Gulf Coast region.
Magellan Midstream Partners CEO Michael Mears said: “Demand for refined products export capabilities from the Gulf Coast continues to grow, and Magellan is well-positioned to take advantage of these opportunities due to our extensive pipeline and terminals network.
“We are pleased to expand our marine storage capabilities to meet the strong industry demand for both domestic and international exports while solidifying our strategic position as a key provider of storage and transportation services in the Gulf Coast region.”
Capacity of the Pasadena facility is also expected to be expanded to include up to ten million barrels of storage and up to five docks.
The terminal is set to be operational from early 2019.
