Max Petroleum has discovered oil at well ZMA-A19 in the Zhana Makat field, Kazakhstan.

The well reached a total depth of 948m, with electric logs indicating 28m of net oil pay.

The pays include 5m in the Cretaceous Neocomian reservoir at depths of 648-654m, and 23m in the Jurassic JI and JII reservoirs at depths of 772-832m.

Max Petroleum ran production casing in the well, which will be completed and placed on production immediately after obtaining the requisite governmental approvals.

The firm also started drilling at the second East Kyzylzhar I well on the East Kyzylzhar I prospect in block E.

The well will be drilled to a total depth of 1,200m, targeting Jurassic reservoirs.
