Quantum Power, in consultation with its project partner Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has selected Micoperi as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the Tema LNG facility in Ghana.
The $550m Tema LNG project will have the capacity to receive, store, regasify and deliver 3.4 million tonnes of LNG per year.
The project is planned to be implemented on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis and assets will be transferred to GNPC after its term for a period of 20 years.
Tema will provide GNPC with the flexibility to manage volatility in power demand and fluctuations in domestic gas supply.
Micoperi vice-president Claudio Bartolotti said: "We are delighted to have been selected to execute the EPC for this project of strategic importance, not only for Ghana, but also the wider West Africa region.
"Micoperi’s established experience in Ghana and in delivering similar projects in other markets ensures execution to the highest international standards."
Quantum Power CEO Matty Vengerik said: "Following the rigorous international EPC tender process, which we launched last year, Micoperi has emerged as the successful bidder."
Quantum signed an agreement in February 2016 with GNPC for the construction and operation of the Tema import, storage and regasification facility. The facility will have the capacity to fuel more than 2,000MW of power generation.
Operations at the facility are set to begin at the end of 2016.
